Holothread · Software for production control

Orders, machines, people.
Orchestrated live.

With Holothread you keep track of every production activity, even when everything changes daily. You see in real time where each order stands, who is working on it and where work piles up. Holothread suggests what comes next. You decide. For job shops and contract manufacturers with many variants and small to medium batch sizes.

Runs on existing hardware. Ready in days, not months.

The problem

The plan is set.
The shop floor has its own plan.

A customer calls: they need their order sooner. Is that possible? In the ERP the order is “released”. The last booking is two days old. Nobody knows exactly where it is right now and what would have to wait. Software is not what is missing. What is missing is the link between ERP, planning and the shop floor.

Paper traveler instead of live status

The status of an order is on paper hanging somewhere in the hall. And often it is already out of date.

Walking the floor to check status

Anyone who wants to know where a part is has to walk over and ask.

Invisible queues

Each area does its own detailed planning. It cannot see what is still coming from the areas upstream. So work piles up in front of hardening or QA. You only notice when the delivery date is at risk.

Reporting at the end of the shift

Times and quantities are entered in the evening. If at all. Nobody can see whether a machine is already free for the next order at noon.

Honestly: does this sound familiar?

Management
  1. What happens if your most important planner is out for two weeks?
  2. Do you really need a new machine? Or do parts simply wait too long between steps?
  3. Do you know which orders are really profitable?
Production management
  1. Which delivery dates are at risk right now?
  2. Where is there still room for a rush order?
  3. How busy are your people and machines really today?
Shop floor
  1. Do you know in the morning what is due today and this week, and in which order?
  2. How often does someone ask you: “How far along are you?”
  3. Do you still have to enter times from paper travelers or Excel in the evening?

With Holothread you know the answers. And many questions no longer come up at all.

The solution

The ERP knows the plan.
Holothread shows what really happens.

How an order flows through Holothread

  1. 1

    Customers and projects

Synced from ERP or CRM, or created directly in Holothread.

  2. 2

    Production orders

With operations, drawings, CAD data, constraints and instructions. Created in minutes.

  3. 3

    Planning

Schedule machines and staff dynamically, set priorities. Rough-cut and detailed planning across all areas.

  4. 4

    Execution

Every workstation has all the key information, always up to date. Reporting happens right where the work is done, at a fixed terminal or on mobile.

  5. 5

    Insights

Utilization, lead times, deviations and post-calculation. All at the push of a button.

3 · Plan

Holothread suggests, you decide

Rough-cut and detailed planning with suggestions for machine, operator and sequence. When a rush order comes in, you see right away where there is still room.

4 · Execute and report

Report in a few clicks

Every workstation sees its next tasks. Report start, finish and deviations, with comment and photo. Shop floor data collection happens along the way.

5 · Track

Where is the part, and which route does it take?

The shop floor is your user interface. You see where work is waiting and which route a part takes. Even when parts from different orders are processed together as a batch, for example in hardening or vibratory finishing.

This is not a rendering. This is the real software.
Shown with demo data. What you see:
  • Running jobs and staff setting up
  • Parts waiting at each station, including from different orders
  • Parts moving to the next step
  • Workload and bottlenecks at a glance
  • Live log: every activity traceable

For your role

One picture. Everyone sees what they need.

“Can we meet deadlines without hiring more people?”

You see which orders pay off and commit to dates based on real data. Your production know-how (your DNA) lives in the system, not just in people’s heads.

AI in manufacturing

AI needs data from the shop floor.
Holothread delivers them.

No blank, no production. No real data, no AI. Most AI projects in manufacturing do not fail because of the algorithm but because of the data. Exactly this valuable data is often missing in ERP, MES and Excel.

  1. 1 · Capture

    Real data from operations

Every start, every report, every transfer, every deviation. Plus metadata on project, part, operations and parameters. Captured while working, with no catching up afterwards.

  2. 2 · Structure

    A clean data foundation

Organized by order, part, machine and person. Plan and actual, waiting times and routes in one place.

  3. 3 · Optimize

    AI built on your operations

Photo-based part recognition is already in use. It replaces the paper traveler. On top of the process and value stream data we build optimizations for planning, cost estimation and time prediction.

First the data, then the AI. Holothread does both in one system.

Rollout

A pilot, not a big project.

Two days to go live. No machine connectivity, on existing hardware.

  1. 1Day 1

Align processes and workflows together. Then we set up your production in Holothread.

  2. 2Day 2

Onboarding and training of the pilot team.

  3. 3After that

4 to 8 weeks of pilot operation, then further areas.

Your shop floor, your model.

Runs on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and in the browser. When your shop floor changes, you adjust the model yourself: machines, cells, roles, processes. No new IT project.

About us

We put job shops on a growth path.

It all started with a discussion at a trade fair. The topic was software for manufacturing. Our conclusion: often too big, too complex and rarely built for the people on the shop floor. Yet apps and games show every day how easy good usability can be. That is how Holothread came about. We do not digitalize because it is trendy. Software has to pay off in everyday production.

Does Holothread replace our ERP?

No. The ERP remains your business system: quotes and orders, purchasing and inventory, master data, invoicing and accounting. Holothread takes over everything in production: planning, control and reporting at the workstation.

How is Holothread different from an MES?

A classic MES is built for stable processes: high volumes, lots of automation, recurring series. It needs deep machine connectivity and often months until go-live. Holothread is the real-time layer between ERP and shop floor. Built for manufacturers with many variants and operations, where routes change daily. And where several orders share the same machines and people. Start in days, without machine connectivity. When the process changes, you adjust the model yourself.

We have an ERP with an MES module. Do we still need Holothread?

Your ERP remains the hub for everything commercial. Holothread replaces the production functions that an ERP often covers only partly. You can also replace an existing MES module step by step. Holothread offers what is usually missing there: operation right at the workstation, partial quantities and loop-backs, a live view of the shop floor. The ERP connection runs through an open API or another data sync, for example via CSV.

Do we need machine connectivity?

No. Holothread works from day one without machine connectivity. If you want to connect machines later, that is possible too.

How does Holothread plan?

Holothread suggests machine, operator and sequence. Availability, suitability and qualification count. You set priorities and constraints. More than a visualization, but not an autopilot.

Is Holothread certified?

No. Holothread provides the data for your quality management system. Responsibility stays with you.

Does Holothread fit Lean and continuous improvement?

Yes. Every report creates value stream data from real operations instead of a one-off stopwatch study. Waiting times and bottlenecks become visible. We set up analyses for your value stream.

When is Holothread not a fit?

For series production at a fixed cycle with few, always identical operations.
